Chris Hemsworth’s Rottnest Island quokka selfie breaks records

Chris Hemsworth’s visit to Rottnest Island has gone viral, with his quokka selfie, shared earlier on Friday, being liked a record 1.5 million times.

The Hollywood star visited the holiday island on Thursday and Friday with his family and famous pal, Matt Damon.

Chris Hemsworth’s quokka selfie has gone global.

Nine News Perth reported the selfie was selling Rottnest Island to Hemsworth’s 25 million followers around the world.

The previous record holder for most like quokka post, tennis great Roger Federer, had 500,000 likes on his post over a year.

Tourism Australia has Hemsworth on a retainer, meaning the state government did not foot the bill for his visit, which included a trip to Red Bluff in regional WA.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said the quokkas at Rottnest Island were invaluable for tourism.

“We need to be the western gateway and we need to market things that are unique to Western Australia,” he said.
