Jeremie Frimpong believes Manchester City have two players who are better than Jude Bellingham.
The Real Madrid poster-boy would likely be one of the contenders to win the Ballon d’Or, especially if England go on to win Euro 2024.
Such is the standard Bellingham has set in Madrid that the Santiago Bernabeu faithful will likely remember his impact for years to come.
But even so, perhaps some might argue that the ongoing campaign is the first in the Englishman’s career where he has truly played at a world-class standard, especially compared to some of City’s big names.
For instance, playing at an elite level is second nature for a player like Rodri.
To the extent that the odd underwhelming display from the Spanish international would send shockwaves around the world, especially in a big game.
That is the mark of a truly world-class player, as Rodri is when their brilliance becomes normalised to an extent and it is perhaps only after his career that fans and pundits will realise how consistently remarkable he was.
This season, the same conclusion can be arrived at when discussing Phil Foden.
If Manchester City are 1-0 up in a game and Foden is on the score sheet, the provider or heavily involved in the goal, it is not much of a shock.
Recently, Michael Dawson claimed that the 23-year-old is a superior player to Jude Bellingham at this moment in time.
As brilliant as Bellingham is, he perhaps has plenty to do to be universally viewed as the best of the best.
Perhaps that could begin when the former Borussia Dortmund dynamo wins La Liga and the Champions League.
On Wednesday, Bellingham will face several of the City players he has been likened to.
In an episode on GOAL’s Front Three, Jeremie Frimpong was asked to speak when he heard the name of a midfielder who is better than Jude Bellingham and he spoke when Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva were mentioned.
“Yeah”, he replied straightaway after De Bruyne’s name was called out.
After stating Kevin De Bruyne is better than Jude Bellingham, Jeremie Frimpong went back and said the same about Bernardo Silva after he did not say a word when he was mentioned.
“What about Bernardo Silva? Sorry, sorry, Bernardo Silva.”
Having come through the Manchester City academy, Jeremie Frimpong must have kept a close eye on the brilliance of Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne for years, which is perhaps why he thinks they are still better midfielders than Jude Bellingham.
Both Bernardo and De Bruyne have far more longevity at the top level than Bellingham, which is a key component when judging players’ standings in the game.
It would be fair to claim that the ex-Birmingham City hero has had a better season than the pair but that can be said about other midfielders too but that would not make them better players than them.
A more apt comparison would be pitting Jude Bellingham’s teammates, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric to the Sky Blues pair as they too have achieved tons in their careers while being incredibly consistent for years on end.
