Meghan Markle appears to make a subtle dig at royal life as she celebrates a new chapter in With Love, Meghan, her latest Netflix series.

The eight-episode lifestyle show, which premiered Tuesday, serves as a “how-to guide” for entertaining. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Prince Harry have been slowly re-entering the public eye with various media projects.

In the premiere episode, Meghan introduces her first guest, makeup artist and longtime friend Daniel Martin, saying, “He has just been in my life for the before, during and after, shall we say.” Some believe this is a reference to her transition from Hollywood actress to royal and then back into the entertainment industry.

Later, in Episode 7, while making potstickers with Tatcha founder Vicky Tsai, Meghan discusses the Japanese art of Kintsugi, which emphasises embracing imperfections. “I think it’s so meaningful that if you break something that’s precious and valuable, it’s not broken,” she says. “That fracture actually makes it more beautiful, and I just think that felt really symbolic of saying to anyone: if you’ve been through something, you’re not broken.”

We’re thrilled to celebrate our dear friend Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, and her uplifting new show, “With Love, Meghan.” For over a decade, we’ve been lucky to know her not just as the inspiring woman the world sees, but as the kind, funny, and thoughtful friend we love. This is the first time you’ll get a glimpse into our friendship, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. Watch it now on @Netflix 💕

Many see this as an indirect reflection on her experiences within the royal institution.

In the final episode, Meghan toasts to her loved ones, including Prince Harry and her mother, Doria Ragland. “I just want to raise a glass to you guys,” she says. “This feels like a new chapter that I’m so excited to share. I’ve been able to learn from all of you. Thank you for all the love and support.”

She continues, “All of that is part of that creativity that I’ve missed so much, so thank you for loving me and celebrating with me.” Some interpret this as a reference to the constraints of royal life.

Directed by Michael Steed, the series features 33-minute episodes produced by Archewell Productions.
